All About Me
As a college senior majoring in Anthropology and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (EEB), I have created this blog in order to share my thoughts and ideas as an undergraduate senior and continue it throughout my career as an academic.
All my friends will tell you that I absolutely LOVE my fields of study. Although every college student finds themselves stressed, I ultimately love having the chance to further educate myself despite the initial cost. The final reward and the summation of a semester’s is always a relief and a sense of contribution toward a higher goal. Nonetheless, blogging appears to me as a great way for me to relay my love of my majors while alleviating the tensions from everyday life. Blogging also gives me a way to keep my friends and family updated with the internal workings of my life while remembering that they do not keep the same hours as me (I will probably find myself on here many future nights/mornings). With my blog, I hope that I manage to show my friends and family that I am not just cooped in my room wasting my life away–I do have a point with my papers (and it just takes me a long time to write them).
Additionally, as I post my ideas and current thoughts, I would ideally love to have input! I always find it extremely beneficial to hear different points of view. Sometimes, being in an area of study blinds us to how “out there” the newest theory might come off to someone in another field. So, I often tend to become extremely biased within my own paradigm and I always appreciate a break from the same thought lines (and I am sure my professors will greatly thank you before I turn in another paper just like the last one!).
I must warn you, I like to vent. I really feel like it is necessary to spread your opinions and speak out for your beliefs.
In conclusion, as a college senior (although next year I will be a super-senior due to my desire to obtain 2-degrees) that started as a mathematics major (and I still love math!), but ended as an Anthropology/Ecology & Evolutionary Biology major, I have changed my mind about the next step after undergraduate as well. Right now, after thinking about career options, I have completed pre-medicine requirements and I would love to fulfill a childhood dream to obtain an M.D. As of May 5th, I am beginning the process to pursue my MD, PhD, or MD/PhD (and I am so nervous about getting accepted into a program!). With that said, I really want to have a career in medicine using my training as an anthropologist to give a humanistic approach because I do think cultural values need to have an increased importance within the medical community in order to pinpoint the correct ailment–but that’s another story, another post. So at this current moment, I am just another confused college senior worried about my future, and honestly, right now, I think I’ll take Scarlett O’Hara’s approach & “think about it tomorrow.”
